The fourth edition of SEBOTA took place on the last weekend of June; this initiative forms part of SEBOT’s activities and involves organising botanical excursions across the Iberian Peninsula. This year we visited the area around the Sierra de Gredos, particularly its western massif, to study the flora—both vascular and bryophyte—found in this region. On this occasion, we were supported by two experts on the flora of the Central System: Modesto Luceño (Pablo de Olavide University) and Nagore García Medina (Autonomous University of Madrid), who organised three excursions for us (the Hoyocasero pine forest, which we visited on Friday; the Sierra de Candelario on Saturday, and the peat bogs at Puerto de Peñanegra on Sunday), where we were able to see some of the wonders hidden within the Sierra de Gredos.
Among the most unusual species we saw were Rhaponticum exaltatum (b), Meesia triskelion (c) or Martagon lily (d). However, once again, what was truly remarkable about the SEBOTA field trip was the great atmosphere and the character of those who took part, for which we are immensely grateful.
See you next year at SEBOTA V!
